The General Assembly convenes for Day 39 of the 2014 session today, and with Sine Die (the final day of the Session) set for Thursday, March 20, there are several bills in both chambers with an uncertain fate. This includes final passage of the Fiscal Year 2015 state budget (HB 744), which by law is the only piece of legislation the General Assembly is required to pass.
GNA advocacy for vital nurse funding in FY ’15 budget
GNA continues to advocate for new funding in the Fiscal Year 2015 budget for the Georgia Board of Nursing and school nurses. GNA’s advocacy efforts for this new funding are ongoing. The Senate’s proposed budget for FY ‘15 budget does not include new funds for Mandatory Reporting or Board of Nursing operation. The Senate has also removed new funding proposed by Governor Deal for school nurses. Last week, GNA sent an action alert to all members encouraging them to contact the chairs of House and Senate Appropriations to request that funding for the Georgia Board of Nursing and School Nurses is included in the FY ’15 budget.
GNA will continue to advocate for this vital funding and inform our members of the status of this priority as the 2014 Session gavels to a close this week.
