2017 GNA Legislative Kickoff
Share |

On January 12, 2017 GNA hosted its first Legislative Kickoff at the Capitol. With 75 attendees, members and interested nurses provided legislators with a care package and two of nursing’s major legislative priorities for 2017; the Nurse Licensure compact and the development of a study for advance practice nursing.

The day started early, with a briefing for all nurses in attendance on the topics to be discussed.  A very special thank you to Grand Canyon University for providing early morning refreshments for all attendees.

A huge thank you to Health and Human Services Committee Chairs Rep. Sharon Cooper and Sen. Renee Unterman, along with Representative Jodi Lott for being GNA members, and taking time out of their schedule to visit with our attendees and take a photo. All are, themselves, nurses and serve as vital advocates to the nursing profession in the general assembly.

All nurses in attendance spent the rest of the day visiting with legislators and talking to them about the reasons that their profession needs the support of our elected officials.

The feedback from legislators was positive and will play a vital role in nursing's 2017 legislative success.

GNA would like to thank all the members and nurse attendees for making the day a productive event. We will continue to involve the nursing community in the advancement of the nursing profession from a legislative standpoint. Your perspectives are vital and we would love to have you play a role in our success.
